What Brain Science May Be Showing About Religious Belief

Do humans believe in god[s] as a side effect of evolution?

Researcher Andy Thomson says that is indeed the case.

The Virginia psychiatrist embarked on a study of "what causes religious belief" almost ten years ago -- after his son narrowly escaped the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York.

We talk with Dr. Thomson about the findings just published in his new book.

Guest:
J. Anderson "Andy" Thomson, Jr., M.D. - Clinical Psychiatrist. Staff member, Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy at the University of Virginia. Co-Author, Why We Believe in God[s]: A Concise Guide to the Science of Faith [Pitchstone Publishing, June 1, 2011].

Tom Graham was Senior Producer and host of WMRA's Virginia Insight from 2006 to 2015.
