Republicans Retain Narrow Control of State Senate

Republicans retain control of Virginia's General Assembly.  No seats for the State Senate will change hands in the next session -- the GOP retains a 21-19 majority.  In the House of Delegates, Republicans will hold a nearly two-thirds majority.

Several Senate incumbents in the WMRA region, all Republicans, easily won re-election over Democratic challengers.  Mark Obenshain defeated April Moore in the 26th District (parts of the Shenandoah Valley, including Harrisonburg), and Bryce Reeves defeated Ned Gallaway for the 17th District, covering Orange County and parts of Louisa and Albemarle.  Many other Senate districts were uncontested.

For the House of Delegates, Republican Del. Steve Landes defeated Democrat challenger Angela Lynn to retain his seat in the 25th District, which covers parts of Albemarle, Augusta and Rockingham counties.  Del. Ben Cline turned back a challenge from Democrat Ellen Arthur to win re-election in the 24th district, which covers parts of Amherst and Augusta counties, plus Bath and Rockbridge, including Lexington and Buena Vista.
