Jazz in June

Friday, June 19, is the annual Jazz in June fundraiser benefiting the Harrisonburg Explore More Discovery Museum. WMRA’s Kara Lofton reports.

Trisha Blosser, the development officer for the museum, said the June fundraiser is one of two major benefits the museum holds throughout the year. These fundraisers help supply up to 40% of the museum’s operating budget and help keep the entrance fees to the museum the lowest of any children’s museum in Virginia, without sacrificing the quality of the programming.

TRISHA BLOSSER: We have almost 60,000 visitors a year, field trips, people, residents, tourists that come to see our exhibits, we have a lot of summer classes, different after school programs, so these fundraising events really allow us to continue what we do and provide quality, educational experiences that are hands on and interactive for children and their families.

For the second year in a row, CrossKeys Vineyard is donating their space for the fundraiser. The event also features local craft beer from Virginia Eagle and Brothers Brewery, gourmet food, jazz music from local bands and the opportunity to mingle with other people who support the mission of the museum.
