An Interview with Democrat Jane Dittmar, 5th District Candidate

WMRA continues our series of conversations with candidates for Congress with a focus on the open Fifth District seat.  The Fifth District covers all or part of 21 counties east of the Blue Ridge, and includes the cities of Charlottesville, Bedford and Danville.  It extends from the North Carolina border all the way up to northern Virginia near Manassas.  The seat is currently held by Republican Robert Hurt, who is stepping down after this term.  Jane Dittmar is the Democrat who would like to replace him.

Dittmar is a former member and chair of the Albemarle County board of supervisors, a small business owner, and she’s been a professional mediator certified by the state Supreme Court for sixteen years.  Bob Leweke recently spoke with her by phone, and you may notice that even though Bob referred to the Republican candidate, Tom Garrett, as “Mister Garrett,” he calls Ms. Dittmar by her first name.  That’s because she asked him to.

Bob Leweke is WMRA's News Director and Morning Edition host.
