Climate Mapping

Plumbago

How might you predict changes that could be coming to Earth’s climate in the years ahead?    Well, perhaps you could enter massive mountains of data into some of the world’s most powerful computers.  Then create maps of predicted developments across the globe.  We talk with two Virginia scientists who have been doing just that.

Guests:

Deborah Lawrence, Ph.D. - Scientific Advisor, International Programs Office of the U.S. Forest Service.  Former Science Advisor, Office of Environment and Global Change, U.S. State Department. Professor of Environmental Science at the University of Virginia.

Herman H. (“Hank”) Shugart, Ph.D. - Author of numerous books on environment and science.  Among those titles:  How the Earthquake Bird Got Its Name and Other Tales of an Unbalanced Nature  (2007) as well as the just released Foundations of the Earth: Global Ecological Change and The Book of Job. (July, 2014; Columbia University Press). Director of the Center for Regional Environmental Studies and the W.W. Corcoran Professor of Environmental Sciences and the at the University of Virginia.
