Our Charlottesville transmitter (WMRY) was off the air from Thursday night to Friday morning, but we're now back up to full power.
Due to a storm near our Charlottesville transmitter site, a large transmission line serving the region went down at about 6pm Thursday night. Central Virginia Electric Cooperative was able to respond to the outage and restore power to most of the region, but there was an additional problem near our tower. CVEC crews were forced to take a break after 16 hours, but managed to address the power issues affecting our transmitter Friday morning. At that point, we discovered that our transmitter had sustained a direct lightning hit, but our engineers were able to repair the damage and we are once again broadcasting on WMRY, 103.5fm.
