Interestingly, like in so many competitions, there might be concern about "doping" --notice this rule: "treating fresh plant material by application of substances such as paints, dyes, etc., is not permitted" (71st Annual Lily Show handbook, pg19, rule 12, in "Rules for Artistic Exhibitors").
